Cycling Accidents

Here at CA Solicitors we specialise in achieving compensation for cyclists who have been involved in accidents. You may have been knocked off your cycle by a motorist, or sustained injury due to a defect in the highway. Alternatively you may have suffered injury due to a failure of a component part of your cycle. In any of these scenarios you should contact us and we will advise you.

CA Solicitors founded and run CycleAid, an organisation formed in 1988 to specifically assist cyclists who have been involved in accidents. We have successfully and regularly recovered compensation for thousands of injured cyclists to the extent of several millions of pounds. As cyclists ourselves, we recognise that cyclists do not have the same access to legal advice and assistance as, say a motorist who can contact his or her insurers or brokers for guidance. We provide a FREEPHONE helpline 24 hours a day where a fully qualified Solicitor or Legal Executive will provide initial advice on your potential claim, 0800 387 815. We will visit you either at home or in hospital if required.

What to do in the event of a cycle accident

Obviously this is going to be a stressful time for everybody involved but you need to ensure that you remain calm and do not become angry with the person who you feel caused the accident. Call the police and remain at the scene until the police arrive as they will want to ask you and the other party some questions and take details. Take as much witness information as you can if you are able. The police will get this information and we can obtain it from them, but to avoid delays take as much information as you can yourself. Names, addresses and vehicle registration are good pieces of information to take down.

If you are able take photographs of the scene, although we appreciate you may not be in a position to do this if injured, nor will it be the first thing on your mind. Make a note of street names, the speed at which you were travelling and your estimate of the speed at which the other party was travelling, vehicle location and direction of travel, vehicle damage and collision points.

Take a note of the details of the other party’s vehicle to include registration number, vehicle type and colour. All drivers much exchange details by law. It’s handy too to make a note of weather conditions and whether the roads were dry , wet or icy.
