Amputee Settles for £1m

A former maintenance worker who had part of his leg amputated after an accident at work has won nearly £1 million in compensation.

Matthew Watton was working on a construction site in 2005 when the accident happened. He was trapped underneath a 30-tonne truck which fell over onto its side. The accident caused extensive damage to Mr Watton's left leg and he also suffered a head injury. Unfortunately, Mr Watton had to have part of his leg amputated.

The claim was brought against the truck owner's insurers who accepted that the accident had arisen as a result of negligence and breaches of health and safety law. They agreed to pay Mr Watton just under £1 million in compensation.
