Over £10,000 for Wrist Broken on Cruise
A woman who broke her wrist on the second day of a cruise holiday has won over £10,000 in compensation for her injury.
The unnamed woman, who was taking a Mediterranean cruise aboard the Navigator of the Seas, had decided to take a walk on deck. She slipped over on a pool of melted ice cream, which had spilt from a faulty machine, and broke her wrist. She was taken to the onboard health centre but had to wait two days until the ship reached Monaco before she could go to hospital to have her wrist set.
As a result, the woman’s holiday was ruined and she had to take sick leave from her job. Although the injury has now healed, she still suffers from pain when the weather is cold.
A claim was brought against Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines, which admitted liability for the woman’s injury. The faulty ice cream machine was replaced when the ship docked in Monaco.
A relaxing break can easily be ruined if you suffer injury or illness because of the negligence of your holiday provider. In many cases, however, it will be possible to claim compensation from the company responsible.
