Girl Injured in Car Accident Before Birth Receives £1.9 Million

A three-year-old girl, who was injured before she was born as a result of her mother being involved in a car accident, has been awarded £1.95 million in compensation. It was claimed that Emily Ballard was born prematurely as a result of the accident. She suffered breathing difficulties and brain damage and will require lifelong care.

The insurers did not admit liability for the accident, but agreed an out of court settlement of £1.96 million because of the severity of Emily's disabilities. Emily's mother, Hayley Ballard, was awarded £10,000 in recognition of the care she has given to her daughter. It is hoped that the settlement will give some security to Emily who would otherwise have faced an uncertain future.
